FLIGHT TEST MODIFICATION MECHANIC A

Job Location: Van Nuys, CA


Modifies the structure of various types of production and experimental aircraft to accommodate installation of flight test and instrumentation equipment for experimental flight test programs. Plans, lays out, and fabricates sheet metal parts and assemblies and installs on aircraft for flight test projects as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works from drawings, photos, sketches, oral and written instructions.
Plans sequence of operations and methods to follow in laying out, fabricating, assembling, and installing complex sheet metal, plastic, machined, extruded and tubing parts and assemblies for aircraft and related equipment.
Makes layouts and completely builds temporary tooling to fabrication developmental or modified structural
assemblies for installation in aircraft or for mockup.
Uses a wide variety of fabrication machines, such as power shears, power brakes, hand brakes, saws, routers, grinders, shrinkers, forming rolls, drill press, riveters, and arbor press to complete assigned project.
Fabricates parts and assemblies from measurements taken directly from aircraft as required.
Performs major modification or rework to exterior contour of aircraft involving primary structure to accommodate new configurations or radomes, antennas, stress doors, camera fairings air scoops, pods and sensors. Hand fits assemblies to extremely close tolerances.
Modifies floor structure, frames, stringer, bulkheads and load caring members of aircraft to support racks of
electronic and flight test equipment.
Responsible for installation of mechanical structures of missile radar components and all power equipment used to operate flight test equipment and for the installation of cameras, missile pylons, pods and antennas.
Qualifies for and maintains necessary certifications and/or licenses and required.
Performs rework of the same nature and level of difficulty as described.
Performs incidental related duties as assigned or required.

This is a one-year-plus contract which will support the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Autonomics Logistics Information System (ALIS) program at our Edwards Air Force Base, CA location.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform as the ALIS Computer Management Maintenance Software (CMMS) Subject Matter Expert (SME)
• Act as the technical interface to the customer in resolving issues arising from operations, deployment and/or maintenance activities for all matters dealing with the ALIS CMMS system
• As lead CMMS SME, ensure that the Site Manager and Flight Test community is kept apprised of F-35 ALIS technical problems and changes
• Provide technical direction and guidance to simulation, training and support and aeronautics teams in
performance of their assigned tasks
• Ensure the ALIS product functions seamlessly to provide an integrated technical service to customer personnel
• Attend daily maintenance meetings and provide status on ALIS development activities
• Accomplish in-depth troubleshooting and analysis of ALIS System difficulties experienced at the assigned location
• Attend debriefings as required to aid in the rapid identification of emerging issues that would require company intervention to avoid aircraft/training downtime
• Thoroughly document all unusual operational/maintenance problems, even if they are resolved on-site, to ensure that the company is apprised of and can identify emerging failure trends
• Initiate Action Requests identifying unique operational problems that require technical, procedural, or quality assurance actions to resolve
• Provide on-site assistance to personnel initiating “Deficiency Reports”
• Provide training, when requested, to USAF, USN, USMC, UKMOD and partner personnel
• Interface in day to day maintenance activities with assigned personnel
• Some U.S. Travel may be necessary

Requirements:

• Nine-plus years of work experience in the Air Force aircraft maintenance field or 7 years of professional
experience with a related Masters degree
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field preferred but not required
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience with DoD customer interfacing
• Experience with Flight Line Maintenance and Aviation Technical Records Management in a flight test working environment
• Experience with software/system integration
• Strong leadership and organizational management skills
• Excellent trouble-shooting and communication skills
• In compliance with Department of Defense and Department of State standards related to this work,
you must be a U.S. Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance; active Top Secret clearance preferred
• Ability to work overtime as necessary (probable schedule of 60-plus hour weeks)

Desired skills:

• Prior hands-on experience with aviation based maintenance management systems
• Understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and how the system is utilized to support flight line operations
• Experience with software/hardware deployments/rollouts; JSF fighter operations/knowledge is preferred
• System integration experience and the ability to interface with the maintainers, A/C supervisors and management
• SQL Plus experience
